Vandalism protection with VacuBond

VacuBond® optically bonded protective glasses significantly reduce the risk of glass breakage in the case of vandalism. This shows a recent example from our US subsidiary Apollo: In a customer application, the TFT display was subjected to such severe impacts that, despite the 3mm thick, chemically hardened protective glass, the display frame was bent. As a consequence, the bonding was de-laminated but the glass was not chipped!

The VacuBond® optical bonding process closes the air gap between protective glass and TFT display with the OptαGel and connects both components securely. This does not only improve the readability of the display, since light refraction is reduced and the penetration of dirt and moisture is avoided, but also increases the vibration and shock resistance: The gel buffers the energy from impacts and thus reduces the risk of glass breakage. If the impact is so hard that the glass breaks despite VacuBond®, the gel still minimizes the formation of splinters and thus the risk of injury.
